Achab
Rare, sophisticated and visionary

REWRITING HISTORY
character
A red wine with the characteristics of a white one: it impresses at first with a noseful of blue flowers, until an aftertaste of currant and cherry notes on the palate takes over. Produced in exceptionally limited series, Achab is an unparalleled Pinot Noir. An exclusive wine, to be uncorked and enjoyed on unique occasions.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody’s expense but his own. However, nothing dispirits, and nothing seems worth while disputing. He bolts down all events, all creeds, and beliefs, and persuasions, all hard things visible and invisible, never mind how knobby; as an ostrich of potent digestion gobbles down bullets and gun flints.
– Herman Melville, Moby Dick

history
Born in 2000 from a small one-hectare vineyard known as “Corte”, Achab is one of the most important wines of Cantina Luretta. The desire to reinterpret the Pinot Noir in the context of our territory through a process of continuous experimentation has resulted in one of the most refined bottles of our winery.
In recent years Achab has received two important international awards. It won the first prize at the International Wine Challenge in 2016 and it reaped yet another success at the Sommelier Wine Awards in 2017.
Given the small size of the vineyards, Achab is produced in limited series of maximum 3,000 bottles per vintage. An exclusive and sophisticated wine, which after having fermented in truncated conical wooden vats, is left to age in small oak and cherry wooden barrels for nine months. Patience and attention to detail play a key role in endowing this wine with the perfect balance between tannins, fruitiness and acidity.
