Le Rane

Complex, balanced and sophisticated

The sweet soul of Malvasia Aromatica di Candia is expressed in Le Rane, a rich and balanced wine that pays homage to the territory through Luretta’s unique vision.

Refined delicacy

Photographers call it the “golden hour”: the moment when the light seems to paint everything it touches an intense yellow, for a few minutes at the end of each day. An ephemeral certainty, just like Le Rane. The late autumn sun that strikes the ripe bunches still hanging on the vine, showing their best aspect and exalting their qualities: a natural process that is far from simple.
We don’t talk much about our Rane, but not because they have something to hide. A wine that needs little introduction: winner of a Sole Luigi Veronelli and third best sweet wine in Italy at the 2017 Sommelier Wine Awards, this delicate passito is an elegant wine studied in every detail to bring to the table the characteristics of a grape variety that has always made us proud of our region.

character

Complex and refined, Le Rane is the sweet soul of Malvasia Aromatica di Candia, aged in glass for two years before being ready to be served. Exotic fruits, Mediterranean herbs and white flowers emerge from this balanced wine with high acidity. Perfect with desserts and blue cheeses.

“Natural vision is always a surprise, a reopening of the eyes to the world. Without wonder, without surprise in front of anything, there is only a mechanical duplication of the visible.” – “Photography Lessons,” by Luigi Ghirri

history

The first bottle of Le Rane was released on the market in 1999. As it has often happened throughout the history of Luretta, this was also an experiment: Le Rane was a reinterpretation of our Boccadirosa, the still white wine which had already been part of the collection since 1992. We wanted to show that our Malvasia Aromatica di Candia could take the shape of French sweet wines, respecting their tradition and, perhaps, proving to be at their same level. With only 70 grams of sugar per liter, the first version of Le Rane attracted attention because of its uniqueness, but it remained too unusual to become a fixed presence in our collection. We revisited the composition in 2000, this time wishing to create a bottle in the style of French Sauterne, with a good level of acidity and a multifaceted aroma suitable for drinking outside the typical dessert moment. It is a success. Le Rane continues to surprise those who drink it for its structured taste, tributing both territorial tradition and transalpine winemaking.
